The Fifteenth Meeting of the newly reformed Queer Mutiny Brighton will take place at the Cowley Club from 6pm Thursday 27th of April.

After the meeting people tend to stay to join in with whatever the Cowley Club are putting on...This week it'll be a delightful meal cooked by hot vegan chef's! So the meeting flows well into social time.

If you would like to get involved with expanding the queer scene in Brighton then please come along, invite your friends and get involved!

Discussing a 'safer spaces' policy for the Holy Queermunion! Weekender and group in general,
Organising of posters, flyers and banners for the weekender,
Anything anyone feels like discussing,
Also the meeting's an excuse to generally hang out together.

HOLY QUEERMUNION

A weekend of workshops, meetings, film showings and discussions on queer theory!
Held both days at the Cowley Club http://www.cowleyclub.org.uk, Brighton's friendly social centre.

Some confirmed workshops for the event include:
-What is Queer?
-Self Defence for Queers
-DIY Sex Toys
-Queer Media/Film Making
-Sex Tips For Queers
-All Day DIY Clothes Moderation/Drag-Up Workshop

There will be some slots available on the day for people from outside of Brighton to sign up to host workshops, however time/space is limited so we request that if you want to do so you contact us through the facebook group and let us know in advance.

Saturday night will conclude with Queer Bands/Performances TBC, followed by a GenderFuck themed Slutdisko http://www.myspace.com/slutdisko

Sleeping space will be available for people travelling from outside of Brighton.

Creche facilities will only be available on prior request - please contact through the facebook group.

Weekender Online Discussion & Next Meeting

Join the Queer Mutiny Brighton group and discuss the upcoming weekender. Help us organise and suggest a band or you're own, films to play and the name of the weekend.

Next meeting: 25th March
The meeting includes deciding on a name and posters/flyers for the May weekender, discussing a way of accomodating people travelling to the weekend from far away.
But the main idea for this week is to chill out, get to know each other some more and socialise.

After the meeting people tend to stay to join in with whatever the Cowley Club are putting on, this week there'll be another one of those great meals... with an Arabian theme.

New Manifesto!

Who are we?
- We are an open group of individuals who come together on the grounds of shared queer politics around gender and sexuality
- We are open to different political and social views
- We understand queer politics to involve an engagement with issues, whilst not being limited to, race, class, age and disability
- We do not understand queer as a rigid identity

What we hold in common:
- We recognise that we are not often able to present our gender and sexuality in the way that we want without encountering queerphobia. This happens in both straight and LGBT venues.
- We experience feeling marginalised and fetishised within LGBT spaces, within which we are 'supposed' to feel safe.
- We perform a queer critique of hetero/homonormative society and the distinction between these.
- We recognise the need for safe spaces as incubators of queer confidence and solidarity.

What do we want?
- We want to create a safe space within which to explore gender and sexuality expressions aside from normative culture
- We want to participate in and ourselves create DIY independent culture.
- We want to explore our own individual understandings of queer.
- We want to connect our queer politics to wider political issues; locally, nationally and internationally.
- We want to eliminate heterophobia in the LGBT scene as well as the need for ghettoization of the gay scene.

How do we want to do it?
- We aim to organise autonomously - without hierachy.
- We will educate people that there is more than the binary between heterosexual and homosexual, male and female.
- We will educate people so they understand queer is not just a sexuality, but a way we live our lives.
- We will critique LGBT culture, not the people who identify with it.
- We will critique the politics of sexuality, but also work to provide an alternative.
- We will be purposeful and anchor our actions in our political beliefs.

Within the group we will:
- Make a zine to distribute widely in Brighton and beyond.
- Put on queer nights.
- Come up with creative actions that will engage people in dialogue.
- Do queer performances/actions in straight spaces.
- Create queer blocks in political demos for other causes.
- Create learning spaces, for others and for ourselves.
